Begun in 2004, the CPinMongolia Project remains ongoing as of November 2026. 

The 237 original resources developed for this open-access repository have been designed for those of you interested in learning about contemporary Mongolian-in-Mongolia society and culture. The focus is on teaching and learning. Across this site, each article is part of a wider web of related texts, images, and media: an expression of inter-textuality. Articles about creative workspaces, as well as music videos on YouTube that I’ve produced or contributed to, can also be found here.

Personal Note

For more than two decades I have pursued questions concerning the nature of Mongolian nomadic and Buddhist philosophy, drawing on both the books that line my shelves and the growing number of digital repositories that have transformed access to manuscripts, archives, museum collections, and scholarly literature.

I never set out to write a website. Rather, the website became the place where the accumulated results of that research found their natural home.

Although its form is digital rather than printed, I have tried to approach each article with the same care that I would devote to a chapter in a book: weighing words carefully, distinguishing evidence from interpretation, and acknowledging the many people and institutions whose work has made my own possible.

Scholarly care resides not in the medium, but in the attention brought to each sentence; the writing surface does not determine the weight of the words placed upon it. —CP
