Notes

For more than two decades I have pursued questions concerning the nature of Mongolian nomadic and Buddhist philosophy, drawing on both the books that line my shelves and the growing number of digital repositories that have transformed access to manuscripts, archives, museum collections, and scholarly literature.

I never set out to write a website. Rather, the website became the place where the accumulated results of that research found their natural home.

Although its form is digital rather than printed, I have tried to approach each article with the same care that I would devote to a chapter in a book: weighing words carefully, distinguishing evidence from interpretation, and acknowledging the many people and institutions whose work has made my own possible.

Scholarly care resides not in the medium, but in the attention brought to each sentence; the writing surface does not determine the weight of the words placed upon it. —CP

Attribution

On-screen and other metadata have been embedded within each post and its multimedia asset(s) to identify and preserve the provenance of the components that form part of each intermedia composition or research article, for example, by retaining the names of people associated with their photographs and other contributions.
